Frequently Asked Questions
What is 4D Ultrasound
This technology adds the fourth dimension of motion to the 3D image using a high definition scanner. This results in real time movement and a full 360 view of your baby in exquisite detail. This is a quality 2D and 3D Ultrasounds cannot provide.
Is 3D/4D Ultrasound Scanning Safe
A range of studies ran over the last 3 decades have found that ultrasound has not shown any harmful effects to mother or baby.
3D / 4D ultrasound uses the exact same intensity as a normal 2D ultrasound. No ultrasound uses any type of radiation or harmful agents; the images are simply created with the use of sound waves.
How long will I have to wait for my pictures
Your Printed photos will be prepared for you to take home within minutes, But DVD's and USB's will be mailed out within the next 5 working days.
Are you able to tell the sex of the baby
In most cases, we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby upon patient request. However we cannot guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage, foetal position and mothers habitus all affect the ability to successfully determine sex.
I do not want to know the sex of the baby, can I still have the 3d/4dscan?
Absolutely! If you don’t want to know the gender of you baby, we can focus the scan on the upper half of your baby.
Is there a Medicare/private health insurance rebate?
Unfortunately because this is an elective, non-diagnostic entertainment scan, there is no rebates.
When is the best time to have a 3d/4d ultrasound?
It all depends on what you are looking to see. Between 16-23 weeks you can see the baby as a whole, then at 25-32 weeks you can see a more detailed face. Between 28 and 32 weeks is the best time to view the face most defined. But after 32 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room. At 34 weeks and up we provide a $50.00 assessment scan to determine if it will be worthwhile to proceed with a full scan.
What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment to get best possible pictures?
It is a good idea to drink plenty of water even several days before your appointment to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear. About a half hour before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan drink another 600ml of water or a juice can help your baby wake up for your session (unless you are told not to by your physician).
Are family and friends welcome to join?
Yes! We encourage you to bring your friends and family to share this special moment with you. We can comfortably seat 5 people, but more are welcome if they would like to stand and watch.
Will I always get great images of my baby?
With the use of the latest HD technology together with the sonographer's expertise Special Moments can assure you we will have a good chance of achieving the best possible 3D/4D images for you. The quality of your 3D images or 4D images will be determined by a number of factors.
These could include things like: The baby’s gestational age, location of your placenta, the baby's position, the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, if the baby is looking face down toward mum's spine, the clarity of the amniotic fluid, and the overall fetal environment. We may be unable to get clear images in these situations but rest assured, it is our aim that no client leaves without the chance to be introduced to their little one.
If after a few trials we are still unable to achieve quality photos, we will invite you back for another appointment at no extra charge because your satisfaction is what matters to us most. In order to maximise your chances of getting a great image, we recommend that you drink at least 8 glasses of water for 1-2 weeks prior to your scan.
Can I still have a 4D scan if I am expecting twins?
Yes, you can have a 3D Ultrasound and 4D Ultrasound, however, your scan may take a little longer and it may be difficult to see both babies properly depending on their positioning. Additional charges also apply for twins or multiple babies.
If I have my 4D scan, do I still need to have my conventional 2D scan with my doctor?
Yes, At Special Moments your health and the health of your baby is the most important thing to us. Special Moments is an elective ultrasound imaging facility meaning we are purely for entertainment. We are by no means a replacement service to any part of your prenatal medical care. Any concerns you have regarding your pregnancy should be raised with your doctor as Special Moments is a non diagnostic service.
I already had a routine ultrasound and was given a picture of my baby, why would I have another scan at Special Moments?
Routine diagnostic ultrasounds are invaluable in assessing your pregnancy and your unborn baby's wellbeing, but the images are taken for its diagnostic value and often make little sense to most people. At Special Moments, we concentrate on providing you with images that no ordinary ultrasound can. You will be able to see your baby in the most exquisite detail.
Imagine seeing your baby in real time in 3D on our big screen waving, yawning and smiling! At the end of your session you will walk away with a complete package of photos, DVD and CD, a precious memento of your little one
I am 34 weeks pregnant. Have I missed the boat?
We have heard from many potential clients who are unsure about having a bonding ultrasound because they feel that they may have "missed the boat" by being 34 weeks or later. But that is not necessarily the case.
So, for those 34 weeks or over we are offering a short assessment scan to determine if it would be worthwhile doing a full 3D/4D Bonding scan costing just $50.00.
